Bettina Zumdick is a teacher, counselor, humanitarian, and author who has integrated modern knowledge of the West with the ancient wisdom of the East. With a strong background in Food Science, Dietetics, and Nutrition from Wilhelms University in Muenster, Germany, she has shared her knowledge of food as medicine for many years.
Bettina served as senior teacher and counselor at Kushi Institute for 20 years and is the founder of the Culinary Medicine School. Her books include Authentic Foods and 10 Delicious Desserts for All Occasions. Her experience in the fields of holistic health, wellness, and macrobiotics has helped thousands of people to regain and maintain their health and vibrancy.
Bettina and Alex are directors of the annual Macrobiotic Summer Conference at Eastover Holistic Resort in the Berkshires and hosts of the Online Winter Macrobiotic Conference. Their books include What Wikipedia Doesn't Want You to Know About Macrobiotics, Basic Home Remedies, and Awned Is the New Organic.
Alex is is president of Planetary Health, Inc. and the Amberwaves grassroots network to preserve rice, wheat, and other grains from genetic engineering, climate change, and other challenges. He has served as executive director of Kushi Institute, director of the One Peaceful World Society, and editor-in-chief of East West Journal. He has helped introduce macrobiotics to China and Russia and has written many books, including The Cancer Prevention Diet, Aveline Kushi’s Complete Guide to Macrobiotic Cooking, The Book of Macrobiotics, The One Peaceful World Cookbook, and The Mozart Effect: Tapping the Power of Music to Heal the Body, Strengthen the Mind, and Unlock the Creative Spirit.
He is on the guest faculty of the Kushi Institute of Europe and the Oshawa Center in Japan and has presented at the Cardiology Institute in St. Petersburg, the Zen Temple in Beijing, Shakespeare’s New Globe Theatre in London, and Rosas Dance Company in Brussels.
